Baritone, A2 to A4

Easy songs for baritones

A baritone sits in the middle of the male voices, and a lot of popular songs are pitched just above where a baritone is comfortable. That is how many baritones decide they cannot sing, when they have been singing in the wrong keys. Every song here fits the conventional baritone span with room at the top, either as recorded or moved by five semitones or fewer. Easy means one specific thing on this page: the melody never needs your highest notes and does not spend its time near them.

What suits this voice

The songs that suit a baritone best live in the middle of the voice, with the big moments landing on notes you can sing with weight rather than ones you have to reach for. Plenty of songs first recorded by higher voices, female singers included, come into baritone range with a key change, and that is how many of the entries below got here.

Before you pick a key

The trap for a baritone is the song you know from a tenor. In the original key its chorus sits right at the gear change near the top of your voice, so it feels nearly possible and wears you out by the second chorus. Taking it down two or three semitones often turns it into a song you can sing all night. When the matcher suggests a key change, try it before you decide a song is too hard.

How this list is made: every range is our estimate from the original studio recording, taken only from the entries in our song table we rate high confidence, not from a published score. A song is listed when its whole structural melody fits the textbook baritone span of A2 to A4 with two semitones spare at the top and one at the bottom, as recorded or with a key change of 5 semitones or fewer, and when the melody does not spend its time within two semitones of that ceiling. Voice-type spans are teaching labels; your own voice may sit higher or lower, so check a song against your measured range before you take a key to a rehearsal.
