How is this different from Yousician or Smule?

Those are pitch games. This is a structured curriculum with 407 exercises across breath, range, agility, tone, harmony, and phrasing: adaptive difficulty, belt progression, and visual pitch feedback as a training aid. Think structured vocal practice, not karaoke.

What genres does this cover?

The vocal technique is universal. Style studies cover rock, pop, R&B/soul, country, folk, and musical theatre. The song library spans those genres, pick what you actually want to sing.

Is it safe to train my voice without a teacher watching?

For the daily technical work, yes, with one boundary we take seriously. After every rep you tell the app whether that felt easy, effortful, or strained. Report strain and the demanding drills close for a few days on their own, and the app says why rather than quietly handing you a shorter session. What it cannot do is hear tension, constriction, or larynx position, so if pain or hoarseness lasts more than a day, see an ENT or a voice-specialist speech-language pathologist. Practicing harder is the wrong answer to that signal.
